Norlan Park Hulse Durrant was born 26 August 1935 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA. He was the 2nd of the two children born to Julius George Hulse (1909-1978) and Eva Ann [Park] Hulse (1907-1935). He had one older brother, Julius George Hulse, Jr. (1934-1934). His brother only lived 2 days. There were complications with Norlan's birth and his mother died shortly after giving birth to him. His father was unable to take care of an infant so he was raised and later adopted by his mother's sister, Leah Agnes [Park] Durrant (1902-1978) and her husband James Earl Durrant (1895-1978). His Durrant siblings are: LaNona Rae [Durrant] Blakely (1922-2003), Ardith Mae [Durrant] Ritter (1924-2014), and Garvin James Durrant (1927-2008). His father later remarried and had a family. His Hulse siblings are: Gary, Vernon, Brenda, Darcel & Nelda.
Norlan grew up and attended school in Ririe and graduated from Ririe High School in 1954. He continued his schooling at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.
At the age of 19 he married Janice Marie Hickam. They were married 30 March 1955 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Norlan and Janice are the parents of 7 children.
After their marriage, Norlan worked as a farmer and as a carpenter and also in the maintenance department for the Ririe School District.
Norlan was a talented man who was fascinated by machinery. He loved working with wood, enjoyed the outdoors, reading books, spending time with his family and friends, and relaxing with a nice cold Pepsi. When Norlan took on a project, he didn't just finish it, he did his very best quality work. He always said that a job worth doing, is worth doing right, along with measure twice, cut once. He loved inventing things or modifying machinery to work better. He believed in God and had a strong testimony of the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints", to which he belonged. He was valiant in his service to his Heavenly Father. Norlan died at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, 24 May 2014 at his home in Rigby after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was 78 years old.
He is survived by his wife Janice Marie Durrant of Rigby, two daughters Kendra (Tim) Price and Karen Durrant both of Roswell, New Mexico, four sons: Dan'L Durrant of Idaho Falls, Dane Durrant of Rigby, Todd Durrant of Nampa and Jay R. (Camille) Durrant of Rigby, two sisters: Nelda (Steve) Leavitt of Rock Springs, Wyoming and Brenda Bright of Rigby, three brothers: Vernon (Betty) Hulse, Gary Hulse both of Rigby and Darcel Hulse of Pinedale, Wyoming, 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Julius George Hulse, Eva Ann Park, James Earl Durrant, and Leah Agnes Park, two brothers: Julius George Hulse, Jr. and Garvin James Durrant, two sisters: Lanona Rae Blakely and Ardith Mae Ritter, and a son Evan Durrant.
