US Congressman. He was elected as a Republican to represent New Jersey's 6th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1877 to 1879. He had previously served as Mayor of Newark, New Jersey from 1866 to 1869. After his Congressional term he served as Vice President of the Essex County National Bank, and as President of the Security Savings Bank of Newark.
