| Birth: | Feb. 15, 1860 Shelby County Indiana, USA | | Death: | Jan. 27, 1936 California, USA |  Alaska Territory Governor. He served as Governor of the Alaska Territory from 1921 to 1925. When President Warren Harding was in North Nenana, Alaska to drive in the final spike for the completion of the Alaskan railroad on July 15,1923, Governor Bone inserted the final spike. In 1925, there was an epidemic threat in Nome Alaska, and he made the decision to send a relay of dog teams to transport diphtheria antitoxin to halt the epidemic. That mission has been memorialized by the Iditarod sled dog race. The Iditarod race is an annual event where mushers and dog teams cover more than 1,000 miles in less than two weeks, Governor Bone died of a heart attack in Santa Barbara.
