Catcher for several American League teams beginning in 1925 with the Philadelphia Athletics where he played 10 games. Three years later, he was with the Boston Red Sox until the start of the 1932 season when he was traded to the Chicago White Sox and played for another season. During the winter, he again was traded to the Philadelphia Athletics until he retired in 1938. In his 11 year career, he batted .267, 539 hits and 23 home runs. After he retired, he became an American League Umpire serving for 21 years beginning in 1942 as well as an NFL head linesman officiating 12 championship games. In 1958, he umpired the World Series and later he officiated the Colts/Giants Football Championship game. His father Charlie also played pro ball in 1884. (bio by: Robert)
