Death: May 3, 2014, Germany

A 19-year-old Fort Carson soldier died Saturday from a non-combat related illness while in Homburg, Germany, according to a statement released Monday by the Department of Defense.

Pfc. Daniela Rojas of Los Angeles was assigned to the 2nd Battalion of the 12th Infantry Regiment in the 4th Brigade Combat Team, the statement read.

Fort Carson officials would not elaborate on what type of illness had caused Rojas' death.

Rojas began her assignment as a unit supply specialist at the Mountain Post in April 2013 and deployed to Afghanistan from Feb. 1 to May 3 of this year, according to Fort Carson officials.

During her 18 months on active duty, Rojas earned the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the NATO Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Dani grew up in Boyle Heights, and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in East Los Angeles. She is survived by her parents, Guillermina and Lidio Rojas, two brothers Lidio, David, and three sisters, Joana , Janet, and Bianca

Note: She was promoted to Specialist posthumously.
