U.S. Congressman. The uncle of Kentucky Congressman George M. Adams, he completed preparatory studies, studied law, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Barbourville, Kentucky. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives in 1839 and a presidential elector on the Whig ticket in 1844. In 1847, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth Congress, serving until 1849. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a judge of the circuit court of Kentucky, (1851-56) and elected as the candidate of the Opposition Party to the Thirty-sixth Congress, serving (1859-61). After his term, he was the Sixth Auditor of the U.S. Treasury Department, (1861-64). He then resumed the practice of law, until his death at age 71. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
