BRANDSVILLE MAN KILLED IN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT
Fred Lile, 35 Years, Meets Death Instantly When Car Turns Over. Brother Also Is Seriously Injured

(From Friday's Daily Quill)

Fred Lile, 35 years old, of Brandsville, was killed instantly and his brother, Walter Lile, 27 years old, was very seriously injured in an automobile accident on state highway No. 63 between Brandsville and Koshkonong. Shortly after 7 o'clock last night. A younger brother, Archie Lile, and Harry Lile, 15-year old son of Fred Lile, also were painfully injured.

The three brothers and Harry Lile were returning to Brandsville from Koshkonong, where they had been to procure medical treatment for Walter Lile, who had been sick yesterday. Near the Flag Pond school something went wrong with the steering wheel of the Ford touring car in which they were driving, and Archie Lile, who was driving, lost control of the car. The car turned completely over one and a half over again, landing on its side.

As the car went over, Fred Lile, who was in the front seat, was thrown out and caught under the fender as the car slid along on its side before coming to a full stop. His head was crushed.

The others were thrown out and Walter Lile sustained three fractures of the jaw bone and other injuries.

Harry Lile sustained a severe cut on his head and other minor injuries, while Archie Lile also sustained various sprains and bruises.

Walter Lile was rushed to Christa Hogan Hospital in West Plains, where his condition today is considered serious.

Fred Lile injured in Tornado in 1926

The members of the Lile family all were in the tornado which swept Brandsville on Thanksgiving day, 1926. Fred Lile’s home was completely destroyed by the storm, and he and his wife and all their children were injured, one daughter, Averill Lile, 14 years old, dying from her injuries a few moments after arriving in the hospital in West Plains where the most seriously injured were brought. Fred Lile was among the most seriously injured of the tornado survivors, his neck being almost broken.

Fred Lile, Walter Lile and Archie Lile all have been employed for a year or more on the ranch of W. R. Haight at Brandsville. Fred Lile is survived by his widow and seven children (Winnona, Harry, Joseph, Alfred, Arthur, Christine, Nadine). Walter and Archie Lile are single men. Also he is survived by his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Madison Lile of Brandsville and by three brothers Walter and Archie Lile of Brandsville, Will Lile of Wichita, Kans., and five sisters, Mrs. Vina Decker of Sioux City, Iowa., Mrs. Susie Jones of De Soto, Mo., Mrs. Lizzie Judd and Mrs. Emma Judd, both of Rover, and Mrs. Alice Russell of Thomasville, Mo.
