Edwin Dale Hayes of Owensville departed this life on Monday, April 21, 2014 at his residence. He had reached the age of 85 years, five months and 11 days.

He was born on November 10, 1928, in St. Louis to the late Edwin Doyle Hayes and Eva Dale Durrough. On October 28, 1950 in St. Louis he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Gentili. He had served his country with the United States Navy. He was a member of the Owensville VFW Post 6133, American Legion of Rosebud and the National Association of Atomic Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald and John Hayes, Thomas Hayes in infancy and sister, Bernice Roach.

His survivors include his wife Mary Ellen (Gentili) Hayes of the home; daughter, Nancy Ann Hayes-Ladendecker and husband Thomas of Effingham, Ill,; granddaughter, Sydney Marie Ladendecker; sister, Betty Jean Eisner and husband, Robert of St. Louis. He was a beloved uncle, great uncle and friend.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville with Rev. Terry Knight officiating. Burial will be in Countryside Memorial Gardens in Owensville with full military honors. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
