He was employed at First Trust Bank in Sigourney from 1935 to 1955. On June 1, 1941, he was united in marriage to Bernice K. Wiese in Marengo, Iowa.

From 1955 to 1965, he was executive vice president at Farmers State Bank in Marion, Iowa.
