James David "Bunton" Thornton, age 76, of Dandridge, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014.

He was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Thornton; son, Timothy Thornton; and his parents, Lester and Rema McGaha Thornton.

He is survived by his wife Valerie Jones Thornton; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Burnett Finchum, Kim and Steve Ivey, Lisa and Craig Matthews and Sherri and Randall Brooks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Judy Thornton and Troy and Pat Thornton; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and John Belda; sisters-in-law, Sandra Epling and Debra Jones; grandchildren, Blake (Julia) Finchum, Ben Duncan, Chesney Ivey, Dylan Brooks, Cierra (Chad) Pruitt, and Nicholas Thornton; great-grandchildren, Lyla, Bella Kate, and Tallulah Finchum, Cade and Cole Duncan and Raelynne Pruitt; also other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday April 22, 2014 in Manes Funeral Home West Chapel with Rev. Hudson Chesteen and Brother Dusty Brooks officiating.

Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Tuesday at Manes Funeral Home West Chapel prior to the funeral service.
