Clarence O. Mathis, 69 of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Macon, died May 18, 1984 at Xavier Park Hospital in Dubuque. He was born Dec. 11, 1914 in La Plata, Missouri, a son of Mr. & Mrs. Willie Mathis.
Mr. Mathis moved to Dubuque in the mid-1940s. He was employed at the Dubuque Packing Co. for 30 years before his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Dubuque American Legion Post No. 6, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 150A, and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, the former Frances Olinger; a sister, Mrs. Anna Mae Gipson of Jefferson City; and a brother, Junior Mathis of Macon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Orva Faught; and one brother, Famis Mathis.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 22 at the Ed Siegert-Al Didesch Colonial Funeral Home in Dubuque. Burial was in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dubuque.
