Ewell T. Turner, The Laurel Merchant, Dies
Passed away from an attack of pneumonia, yesterday
A store keeper 8 years.
Was well known in Banks, and Brother of Montgomery Turner.
Ewell T. Turner, the Laurel merchant for eight years died at his home February 5, 1919, after a ten days illness from influenza, with pneumonia as a complication. His physicians gave him up Monday night and advised the family that it was just a question of time.
Mr. Turner was born in Kentucky, Jan. 11, 1870. He came to Oregon about fifteen years ago, and first worked for his brother, Montgomery Turner, when he was conducting a general merchandise store at that place. He was married to Miss Ella Lavina Schlegel, daughter of John Schlegel, of Banks, at Hillsboro, October 11, 1905. The wife and the following children survive: aged 11;
Leah Beryle aged 9;
Glenn Everett aged 7;
Herod Delbert aged 6;
and Winona A., aged 3.
Eight years ago, Mr. Turner went to Laurel and embarked in the merchandising business, and by close application, a genial nature, and a desire to please his patrons, built up a splendid business.
He was public spirited, honest, industrious, and made friends with all.
The funeral took place this afternoon at 2:30, at Laurel, Rev. B.F. Clay officiating, and the remains will be taken to Banks tomorrow morning by Undertaker Geo. J. Limber.
Mr. Turner will be missed by a large circle of friends and his unfailing good nature and desire to please will long be remembered by all.
