Birth: Sep. 20, 1841
Forsyth County
North Carolina, USA
Death: Sep. 24, 1929
Stokes County
North Carolina, USA

John Madison Rothrock was the third of eight known children of Solomon Rothrock (1814-1875) and Anna (went by Nancy) Elisabeth Perryman Rothrock (1817-1877), who married 28 Jan 1834 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Note that the obituary for John Madison Rothrock, their son, lists his mother as Sallie Burke Rothrock. This is probably in confusion with Solomon Tysinger who married Sarah (Sallie) Burke. When John died in 1929 his mother Nancy had been dead for 52 years.

John Madison Rothrock was a farmer and a Methodist Minister. John married Elizabeth (went by Nancy or Eliza) Rosena (some records show Elizabeth Rebecca) Fry (or Frye?) (1840-1918) on 28 May 1861 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. Other records show they married on 20 May 1865 at Forsyth County, North Carolina. Did they ony file in 1861, but delayed the marriage until after the Civil War?

John enlisted for service in the Confederate Army on 24 May 1861. He served with Company E, North Carolina Regular 21st and Company B, North Carolina Regular 1st Battalion during the war. He served for four years with no injuries. In 1870 the family was living at Salem Chapel Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina.

John and Eliza were the parents of ten known children, six boys and four girls, namely:

1. John Franklyn Rothrock (1866-1939)
2. Mary Alice Rothrock Alcorn (1869-1958)
3. Ellen R. Rothrock Tuttle (1871-1952)
4. Elizabeth P. Rothrock Tuttle (1872-1948)
5. Emory Augustus Rothrock (1874-1972)
6. Brotus Rothrock (1876-1876)
7. Francis D. Rothrock (1877-1877)
8. Carrie Lee Rothrock James (1878-1964)
9. Andrew Thomas Rothrock (1880-1959)
10. Willis F. Rothrock (1881-1881)

In 1900 Rev. John (listed as a farmer), Eliza (mother of ten, seven living which agrees with the above listing) and children Ellen, Emory, Carrie and Andrew were living at Sauratown Township, Stokes County, North Carolina.

Links to John's parents, wife, seven of his ten known children and all seven of his known siblings are included below. Unfortunately it is not yet known where the three children that died young (Brotus, Francis and Willis) are buried.
