Came w parents/family to New Orleans 1851. Following yr. fa died; 5 yrs later, mo died. Trained as printer. Lived in St. Louis; came to Jax 1856; then Peoria and Pekin. Bought Jax Journ w J.H. Mendenhall. After Mendenhall retired, G.P Smith bought in. Sold interest; printer for himself.
Leaves wife and 2 children: Frank J. & Eva D. (wife of Frank Thomas). Another dau died infancy. 2 bros in country: B.H. Ironmonger, Mason City; John, in business on State St; sister Mrs. Jos. D Gray, living near Alexander
