Kathryn Hemby

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mrs. Kathryn Hemby, 97, Gadsden, who died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007. The Rev. Donald Young will officiate, with burial at Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Hemby was born July 14, 1910, in Mississippi to Robert and Eva Jane Reynolds Payne, but due to the untimely death of her mother, was reared by Robert and Ella Jane Ward Payne. She was a longtime member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard O. Hemby; four brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by her sisters, Louise Bennett, Memphis, Tenn., and Julia Collins, Santa Fe, N.M.; brother; Lee Payne, Tomball, Texas; sister-in-law, Charlotte Herrington, Mount Olive, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff at McGuffey Health Care Center and especially Southern Care Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to the hour of service at the funeral home.
