"Loretta Evelyn D. (Epperson) Rice, 99, of Danville, went to be with her Lord at 11:22 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at North Logan Health Care.

She was born Aug. 5, 1914, in Sidney to William R. and Lillian F. (Ross) Epperson. She married Gay W. Rice on July 6, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1963.

They had three children: Sharlene (Jim) Clark of Danville, Karen Lane of Temecula, Calif., and David Rice of Danville. She and Gay had eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Loretta worked at Chuckles Candy in Danville when she was young. She also worked at the Grab It Here grocery store in Danville. After Gay passed away, she got her LPN license and worked at Danville Care Nursing Home. After that she did private duty for many years. Later she helped her daughter at Sharlene's, a licensed day care. She loved caring for the little children and especially the babies.

Loretta loved her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking and especially baking goodies to give away to people. She also loved working in the yard and especially with her flowers. She was in a Bunco club with her friends for many years, which she enjoyed very much.

Loretta was a member of and attended Central Christian Church and also sang in the choir for many years until her illness. She also collected and had many beautiful dolls.

Loretta will be sadly missed by all of her family.

A celebration of Loretta's life will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 17." - Commercial News, Danville, Illinois, April 15, 2014
