Beverly was captured at Old River, Louisiana, on April 23, 1864, and was sent to New Orleans. Pvt. G. M Beverly was sent to St. Louis USA General Hospital, New Orleans, on May 4 with acute pneumonia and on May 27, 1864, he was transferred to U.S.A. General Hospital, where he died June 7 of variola. He was buried in grave 660 "Monument Cemetery", and he left no effects.
