CLARK J. O'HANLON DIES MAY 29th
Clark J. O'Hanlon, well known Blair attorney and member of Blair's oldest legal firm, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon, May 29th. Mr. and Mrs. O'Hanlon had spent the day at Lake Okoboji and he became ill on the way home. He was rushed to the hospital at Denison, Iowa, but died before arriving. He was 59 years of age, having been born February 23, 1920 at Blair.
Mr. O'Hanlon was the son of Attorney and Mrs. Reed O'Hanlon. His mother survives bur his father passed away a number of years ago.
Clark was the third generation of the long-established O'Hanlon law firm which was founded by his grandfather, Clark O'Hanlon, senior, many years ago. Members of the firm who have preceded him in death were his grandfather; his father, Reed O'Hanlon Sr.; and his uncle, the late Philip O'Hanlon. Clark's son, John R. O'Hanlon, is the remaining member of the family law firm.
The deceased has been involved in many community activities and he gave much time to community affairs.
He was a veteran of World War II and served overseas.
He was a Past State Commander of the Nebraska American Legion; a member of the American Legion, Post 154; and the Veterans of foreign wars, Post 1251. He was a past Commander of the Blair Post and was a Judge Advocate of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a Trustee of the Hain-Flynn Post of the American Legion.
He has served on the Washington County Veterans' Service Committee.
He has been Chairman of the Washington County Republican Party and has acted as attorney for many years for the Blair School Board, Dana College and the cities of Blair, Fort Calhoun, Herman, Kennard and Valley. He was treasurer of the Nebraska-Iowa Bridge Corporation, which handled the finances of the highway bridge crossing the Missouri River at Blair. He was also a Past President of the Blair Rotary Club. He had been a recipient of the Dana College distinguished Service Award.
Clark was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and received his Juris Doctor degree from Creighton University on June 5, 1947. He joined the family law firm immediately upon his graduation.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor, who was the former Eleanor Lutz; two sons, John of Blair and David of Lincoln; two grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Ruth (Reed Sr.) O'Hanlon of blair; and one sister, Mrs. William (Ruth Ann) Samson, also of Blair.
Rosary will be recited this (Thursday) evening at 8 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair. Father Daniel Galas will be in charge of the service. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery at Blair.
Pallbearers will be Clayton Byam, George Campbell, John Christopher, Robert Harrison, David Noble and Harold Wright. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray Hansen, Ben Krantz, Dr. C. C. Madsen and Alfred O. Sick.
