JACOB MOLL OBSERVES ANNIVERSARY OF 92d BIRTHDAY; MANY CALL
Prominent Citizen Enjoy Full Faculties Despite Years – Was Born In Alsace But Sympathies Are With The Allies and Relatives: Father Ruby And Friends Make Occasion Most Enjoyable.

To celebrate his 92nd birthday with the retainment of his full faculties, in the best of health and in the midst of a group of loving relatives and admiring friends provided one of the happiest moments in the long and useful life of Jacob Moll, one of Weedsports respected citizens. The observance which was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sarah Hoyt, in Oakland street, was a crowning success and which according to the honored guest will go down in his memory as the best in many enjoyable events of his career.
- Writes Own Invitations. -
During the entire day, the celebration was in order. Relatives and friends went to the Hoyt homestead in glad response to invitations written out by the celebrant's own hand. There was awaiting all the warmth and hospitality of a man who had always looked on the bright side of life and who always had a kind word for everybody. In receiving the many callers, relatives willingly gave their service.
At 1 o'clock, the anniversary dinner was served. Covers were laid for 22 and as many enjoyed a dinner fit for a king. The decorations of the table and of the house were in keeping with this time of the year. Mr. Moll was the happy recipient of many beautiful and valuable remembrances, including in which was a handsome rocker from his children.
- Father Ruby Welcomed. –
Of the many callers during the day, Mr. Moll had the warmest handshake for Rev. J. J. Ruby, pastor of St. Joseph's church, of this village. Father Ruby, as Mr. Moll stated is like one of his own children. The clergyman has been a warm friend of the family for years and without his presence the observance would not have been complete. One of the features of the day was the anniversary speech of Father Ruby in which he paid a glowing tribute to the character of Mr. Moll and in which he recounted innumerable happy incidents, of their long and genial acquaintance. Because of the fact that his father was born but a short distance from the place of Mr. Moll's birth in Alsace. Father Ruby was able to carry on a conversation in German, with the nonegenerian and this pleased him very much.
For the enjoyment of the festivities, the following relatives of Mr. Moll were present: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Moll and son, Richard., Edward Moll of Groton, Mr. and Mrs. George Kilgus and daughter, Louise., Mrs. Florence Sheldon and son, Leland., Arminta Kilgus, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Putnam and son, Clair. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hoyt, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sheldon. Mrs. Sarah Hoyt and daughter, Doris and Dr. and Mrs. H. M Haskell.

Born in Strausburg province of Alsace, Germany in the year of 1826. Mr. Moll went to Paris where he resided previous to coming to America in 1852. After a six weeks voyage in the "Yankee Plaid." a two-masted sailing schooner. Mr. Moll landed in New York where for a time, he launched out in business with his brother. But the desire of being out in the great open country was yearning in his heart, so he moved to Weedsport in 1852. He had chosen this village because here dwelt several close acquaintances of his family over in Europe.
In Iife, he married a Miss Mary Kevler of New York, and with her he made his home here. From this union, three children were born. Mrs. Moll died in 1858 and in 1860, he married again his second wife being a Miss Barbara Shots. From this union, three children were also born. At that time Mr. Moll took up his residence in Cato, where Mrs. Moll died in 1876. ln 1877, Mr. Moll went to live in Woodland, Mich., he married his second wife's sister Mrs. Lucy Veite. There he resided on a farm until his third wife died in 1889. He stayed on his Michigan farm to 1900 when he sold out and came to Weedsport. He has since lived with his daughter, Mrs. Sarah Hoyt in Oakland street.
- Went Almost to World War –
Despite his advanced age, Mr. Moll taken an active interest in present day happenings. Although a native of Alsace, Mr. Moll's sympathies are decidedly with the Allies.
