Michael James (Jim) Clarke Sr.

Michael James Clarke Sr. known throughout his life as Jim,
was born August 6, 1927 in Logan, Utah to Lester Lavern Clarke and Bertha Henderson Clarke. He was the sixth child of eight children. He married Erma Bybee on March 22, 1952 in the St. George LDS Temple.
He passed away on April 6, 2014 in his home in Enoch, Utah.Jim grew up in Cannonville, Utah. He graduated from machinist school in California and later from Tropic High School. At the end of WWII he was drafted into the Army and sent to Fort Douglas and then to Boebligen, Germany where he served for three years.
When he returned home he attended the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Salt Lake City. Later Jimwas recalled to service in the Korean War and was assigned as News Photographer for the Sixth Army until he was released in 1951.
Jim earned his associates degree from Dixie College and his Bachelors'and Masters' of Fine Arts degrees from Utah State University. For over 50 years he spent his professional career as a High School Art teacher in Nevada's Clark County School District and Utah's Garfield County School District.
He impacted the lives of his students being more than a wonderful art teacher. Jim was a great believer in his students and always encouraged them to be their best selves.
Jim was very active in both the community and in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities. He served 2 missions for the church. His first to South Africa and later he was able to serve with his wife Erma in the Baton Rouge Louisiana Mission.
He served for over 25 years as the Stake Patriarch in the Utah Escalante Stake of Zion. He is survived byhis wife Erma, sister Ethel, brother Lester,and all his children:
Michael, Arthur (Nanette), Joan(Lee), Debra (Joseph), Ralph (Chrystal), Cheryl (Kevin), Bertha (Jim) and Patric (Cindy), 37 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014 in the Cannonville, Utah LDS ward building at 12:00pm. The viewing will be from 10:00-11:30am at the church. Interment will be in the Cannonville Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent to sumortuary.com.
