6 Marine Planes Fly Into Hill

WASHINGTON. (IB ??Six marine jet pilots were killed in Korea last Thursday when they flew their planes into a storm-shrouded hillside, the marine-corps announced today.

The marines withheld news of the tragic mishap until next of kin were notified.

The six pilots, flying Panther jet planes, were-returning from a combat mission together and were approaching a strange field when they struck the hillside, the marine corps said.

The dead, all-members of the able Eagles squadron, were: Maj. Raymond E. Demers, 33, formerly of Genesee, Idaho; Maj. Donald F. Giyens, 29., Attleboro, Mass.; First Lieut. Alvin R. Bourgeois, 27, Detroit- Second-Lieut. .John W. Hill Jr., 25, Moncks Corner, S. C.; Second Lieut. Carl R. LaFleur, 23, Pooleville, N. Y., and Second Lieut. Richard Lee Roth,: 21, Lockridge, Iowa: .

Demers is survived by his daughter, Diana, 7, Arcata,. Calif.; his mother, Mrs. Eugene E. Brey, Pittsburgh, Pa.; his father, Del H. Demers, Kennewick, Wash., and a brother, Donald J. Demers, Selah, Wash. He was a veteran, of Pacific fighting in World War II.

Givens is survived by his wife, Vivian, Attleboro, Mass., and his mother, Mrs. Marion L. Givens, Attleboro. Givens served With the royal Canadian air force before joining the marines in World War II.

Bourgeois is survived by his wife, Ruth, Detroit, and his mother, Mrs. Marie Bourgeois, Ferndale, Mich. He won his wings in 1946 and in 1950 was a star athlete at Kalamazoo, Mich., college. He was ordered
to Korea last April.

Hill's wife, Betty, and parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hill Sr., live in Moncks Corner, S. C. Hill, an army veteran, joined the naval reserve and won his wings in July 1951.

LaFleur is survived by his father, John LaFleur of Pooleville, N. Y. The son won his wings July 1, 1951, and was awarded two air medals early this year for Korean combat.

Roth's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Roth, Lockridge, Iowa. He completed flight training last November 1 and was ordered to Korea last July.
