Jean was a 1956 graduate of Statesboro High School. She met and married Richard Carlyle McCorkle of Claxton that same year, moving to Claxton, where she was very active in the Methodist church. They moved to Savannah in 1967 with their two daughters. Jean worked at Sears in the credit department until 1980, when she relocated in Marietta, Georgia, to work for J.C. Penney. She retired from the Department of Labor in 2001. She returned to Bulloch County in January 2013. Jean enjoyed her frequent visits with friends and family. She adored her great-grandsons and looked forward to their visits. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Sylvia Cross of Decatur, Georgia, and Debra McCorkle Wells and Stewart Prather of Asheville, N.C.; three granddaughters, Desiree Cross of Decatur, Sarah Wells of San Francisco, California, and Anna Wells of Kentucky; two great-grandsons, Cartman and Schroeder Cross-Dunn of Decatur. She is also survived by two sisters, Nancy Vinson of Dublin, Ga., and Phyllis Warnock of Statesboro; one brother and sister-in-law, Hal and Linda Gay of Statesboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, April 4th, at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 5th, in Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Tom Osborne and the Rev. Al Purser officiating.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Vitas Hospice, 931 Rock Quarry Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281; or a charity of your choice .
