Son of Johanna (John) and Eliza Reich Styers. Husband of Millie Ann Crews Styers, a sister of Mary Ellen Crews, who married the brother of Abram---Thomas Jefferson Styers. Abram and Millie made their home on the Yadkin River at Styers Ferry, near Lewisville, NC. They were the parents of 12 known children, who were Thomas Walter and his twin Willborn, Eliza Sue S. Craft, Mary Ellen, Maggie Lee S. Conrad, John Edward, Joseph Cephas, Clevia Ann, William Abraham, Buxton Alexander, Henry Rufus Crews (called Crews), and Fred A. Styers.

John Abram Styers was never named Johann or Johanna. Although his family was of German/Austrian in origin the family had long ago anglicised their names. John's grandfather, Samuel Styers came from New Jersey to Abbott's Creek NC after the Revolution.
