Here are my notes for Betty, from her entry in my family tree file- Rick Waggener

Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Waggener Elphick was the third of nine children born to her parents James Richard "Dick" Sr. and Mary Adelaide Henderson Waggener; on March 1, 1923, in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. She spent her early childhood, living with her parents in Royal Oak, Oakland County, Michigan. When the Great Depression hit in the early 1930's, her father Dick was out of work and her parents were hard pressed to support their large and still growing family. As a result, several of their older children where sent to live with relatives. Betty was sent to live with her father's sister, Dorothy "Dot" and her husband Jim Waldsmith. I believe that Betty was about nine or ten years old at the time. I do not know the full story, but I am pretty sure that Betty never returned to live with her parents. I do believe she was welcomed and well taken care of by Dot and Jim Waldsmith, and know she was closer to them, than she was to her parents for the rest of all their lives.

I know that on April 27, 1944, Betty married John Howard Elphick, in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. I know that two sons were born to Betty and John, John and James. I believe that by the later 1940's, they had moved to the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area, and that they remained there for the rest of their lives. Even though Betty was my aunt, I only had brief contact with her when I was fairly young, and never got to know her or much about her life. I do hope to learn more and add more to my account at some point. I know that she passed away on February 5th, 1992, in Baton Rouge. She is buried with her husband John in the Azalea Garden area of the Greenoaks Memorial Park, in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana.- Rick Waggener
