Clarice Horton Sumpter, 92, of Orem, Utah, died January 9, 2002.

She was born March 3, 1909 in Marion, UT to Walter Serene and Leonanie Pack Horton. She married Irvin Rush Sumpter Feb 14, 1936 in Salt Lake City. Their mar-riage was solem-nized in the LDS Temple Oct 25, 1951. He pre-ceded her in death Nov 2, 1967.

Clarice graduated from LDS High School. She was Head Resident (Deseret Towers) at BYU from 1967 to 1974. She spent most of her life as a homemaker for her family. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having held many positions such as stake missionary, Utah Stake and Provo 4th Ward Relief Society president, Sunday School and Primary teacher, Drama Director in YWMIA and a Provo Temple worker.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Wynston Horton (Jeannine Hawke) Sumpter, Seattle, WA, Kenneth Rush (Carol Messervy) Sumpter, Orem, UT, Nell S. (Bill) Gurr, Orem, UT; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, and sisters.

Graveside services will be Tues. Jan 15, 2002, 1 p.m., Salt Lake City Cemetery. Friends may call Mon. 6-8 p.m., Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 E. 800 N, Orem, UT and Tues. at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. prior to the graveside service.
