Coroner Norman Farris said Dye was taking a heavy farm wagon through a gate and was on a hill.
He quoted Dye as saying he could not stop the wagon or turn it on the hill and it got away from him and knocked him down.
The accident occurred about 6:45 p.m. Saturday. He died six hours later at the Somerset City Hospital.
The son of George and Viola Gossett Dye, he was born October 28, 1900. He was married to Lerie Dye in 1923 in Somerset.
Mr. Dye had lived in the county all his life.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Darwin Dye, Route 2, Somerset; two brothers, Delmer Dye, Route 2, Somerset and Marion Dye, Faubush; and two sisters, Gertrude Cooper, Hopeful community and Flossie Henderson, Decatur, Illinois.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Fishing Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Roundtree officiating. Burial was in the Fishing Creek Church Cemetery.
Somerset Undertaking Company was in charge of arrangements.
