Surviving are his wife, Martha Steiding Slawter; one brother, James (Deloris) Slawter; nephews, Robert Cumming, Mark (Lisa) Cumming, Michael Slawter and Rick Bogges; nieces, Michelle (Ray) Poulton and Lanita (Rodney) Neely, Martinsburg, WV and a host of cousins.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Henry Slawter and one sister-in-law, Diana Slawter.
John was a veteran who served as a Sgt. of the U.S. Army in Military Intelligence.
