Joe R. Frederick, 76, resident of Barry, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Navarro Regional Hospital. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2014, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Blooming Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Alison Humann officiating. Burial will follow in Dresden Cemetery.

Joe Rufus was born in Blooming Grove, Texas, to the late Sam Houston and Vivian Mae Lane Frederick. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann McSpadden, and they raised two sons. Joe graduated from Frost ISD in 1957 and the following week went to work for Texas Instruments Inc. in Dallas. After 35 years at TI, he retired to become a rancher on the farm in Barry.

He was preceded in death by his son, David Alan; brothers, Ercle Ferrell and Thomas Ray; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Corben Green, Alice Connell, and Emma and Don Helenthal.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; son, William Glen and his fiancée, Tracey Ivie; granddaughter, Heather Frederick and her friend, Eli Conatser; grandson, Brian Glen Frederick; brother-in-law, Don Connell; and several nephews and nieces.
