OBITUARY ~ Frederika Niebaum
At her home northeast of town, Grandma Niebaum died early Monday morning following an illness of several week’s duration due to complications incident to old age.
Grandma Niebaum, formerly Miss Frederika Monke, was born in Eikun near Hereford, Germany, May 8, 1835. While still a young girl she emigrated to America with a party of relatives and friends, they settling at Quincy, Ill. Here she met and afterward married Herman Niebaum. In 1867, they emigrated to Nebraska settling at Fontanelle. Several years later they moved to the farm where she has since made her home. Her husband passed away Dec. 6, 1891.
She was an influential woman and was active in the affairs of the community at all times. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and relatives. She was a devoted member of the Lutheran church for many years. Surviving her are five sons, H.W., of Fremont, H.H., William, Edward and John, all of Fontanelle, and three daughters, Mrs. A.H. Ruwe, Fontanelle, Mrs. F.W. Ruwe, of Fremont, and Mrs. John Ruwe, of Hooper, and a brother, Henry Monke, Sr., of Fontanelle.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the residence and 2 p.m. at the Lutheran church. Burial was made in the family lot of the Lutheran cemetery. The Rev. L. Grauenhorst officiated.
In their sad bereavement the family have the sympathy of the entire community.
