Florence Meta, the second child of Paul and Lena (Johnson) Krause was born May 14, 1910 near Creston, Nebraska. She attended school at St. John's Lutheran parochial school at Creston. In 1919 she moved with her family to the Hecla area, and attended country grade school at the Wilmsen School. As a young girl Florence enjoyed being in 4-H, and had the distinct honor of winning a trip to the International Livestock Show in Chicago for her project on Bees.
Florence was united in marriage to Arthur Karlen on June 9, 1931 at Peace Lutheran Church near Hecla. They farmed until October of 1974, when they retired and moved into Hecla. Art passed away on April 19, 2007. Florence continued to make her home in Hecla until she went to live in Oakes with her daughter, Corky, before becoming a resident of the Oakes Good Samaritan Society.
Florence was a member of Peace Lutheran Church near Hecla. She enjoyed all kinds of flowers and gardening, crocheting, playing cards, and reading devotions.
She is survived by her four daughters, Joyce (Ron) Corliss, Leora "Corky" Brady, Loraine (Darrel) Dinger and Margie Hansen; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur, her brother, Clarence Krause, 3 sisters, Stella Ackerson, Mabel Felix and Wilma Tischer, 2 sons-in-law, Benjamin Hansen and Earl Brady, and 4 great-grandchildren.
