Kenneth Wayne Wertz, 94, of Williamsport, passed away 9:45 pm Monday March 24, 2014 at Williamsport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born January 30, 1920 in Veedersburg Indiana, the son of Herschel Joseph and Lela Katherine (Keller) Wertz. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Tony Harper and Adam Maynard; two sisters, Doris Pugh and Betty Millburg and a brother, Gerald Wertz.

He married Betty Lou Hoyt September 18, 1947 at the Williamsport United Methodist Church. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Jacqueline Dianne (Carl) Harper; three sons, Kenneth Wayne (Kathy) Wertz, James Richard (Pat) Wertz and Robert Dean (Diane) Wertz; a sister, Maxine Stewart; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, stationed at Pearl Harbor. After his service in the Army he utilized the G.I. Bill and attended pilot school, becoming a licensed pilot. He was employed for 34 years as a walking mailman at the Williamsport Post Office, retiring in 1980.
