| Birth: | Nov. 11, 1915 | | Death: | Dec. 15, 2005 |  US Senator. A native of Lake Forest, Illinois, he served as a United States Senator from Wisconsin from 1957 to 1989. He also served as a Member of the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1951 to 1952, Candidate for Governor of Wisconsin in 1952, 1954, and 1956 as Democratic, and as an Alternate Delegate to the Democratic National Committee from Wisconsin in 1952. In 1975 he started the 'Golden Fleece' Awards.
