Until her early death, Abby Howe was an active philanthropist in Chicago. Her parents were William Deering and his first wife Abby Reed Barbour Howe, died 1856, burial place unknown but probably in Maine. The one child of Abby and Richard Howe was William Deering Howe, born May 16 1900 in Chicago, Illinois, married Polly Brooks on June 27, 1921, death and burial places unknown; they had two daughters born 1923 and 1927.
Abby Howe was first buried in 1906 at Grace- land Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois, in a lot owned by her McCormick relatives. On Dec 17, 1937, her body was removed to Locust Valley Cemetery, Nassau County, New York, probably by her husband Richard Flint Howe, who died in 1941.
