Hawera & Normanby Star, 25 Nov 1901
A painfully sudden death occurred about 8:40 p.m. on Saturday. Mr C. Brennan, one of the oldest residents of Eltham, was in the back yard of Mr Harvey Thomson, butcher. The latter, hearing a groan, looked around, and saw Brennan drop dead. Medical aid was at once obtained, but it was of no avail, death having taken place. As deceased was known to have been suffering from heart disease, a medical certificate to that effect was given, and therefore no inquest will be held. Deceased was universally respected, and general regret will be felt at his death
