Oswald "Ossie" Morris
Birth: Nov. 22, 1915
Greater London, England
Death: Mar. 17, 2014
Fontmell Magna

Motion Picture Cinematographer. He received an Academy Award for his work on the film "Fiddler on the Roof" (1971). A fascination with movies at an early age was enhanced, as he took on a position as projectionist when school was out. He abandoned school by the age of sixteen, in order to become an apprentice and clapper boy within the film industry. He was elevated to assistant cameraman in 1935 and three-years later, he was a camera operator. Following service as a bomber with the Royal Air Force during World War II, he resumed his career and contributed camera efforts to David Lean's "Oliver Twist" (1948) and John Huston's "Moby Dick" (1956). For the later, Morris' reputation grew as the result of his innovative utilization of a mixture technique with both color and black-and-white filmed scenes. He was highly in demand and added remarkable results to a wide range movie of genres which included the pictures "Look Back in Anger" (1959), "The Guns of Navarone" (1961), "Lolita" (1962), "The Pumpkin Eater" (1964), "Sleuth" (1972) and "The Wiz" (1978). He retired during the early 1980s. (bio by: C.S.)
