Mrs. Lena May Calvin, 82, former Monitor area resident for many years, died last week Wednesday at a Salem nursing home after a long illness. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Ringo-Cornwell Funeral Chapel and interment was at Belle Passi cemetery beside her late husand.
Mrs. Calvin was born at Salem December 5, 1880, the daughter of William H. and Mary Sawtell Lenon who came to Oregon in early days by covered wagon. She moved to the Monitor area with her parents in 1882, residing first on the William Annen farm and later in the old Lenon home in the same area. Here she lived until 1917 when she went to Eureka Cal., to marry Vern Calvin.
After several years at Eureka, they returned to Oregon with their daughter Edythe and again lived on the old Lenon place at Monitor. After her husband died in 1940 she went to Salem. In January of this year she went to the Boyce sanitarium.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Edythe Calvin Ross, and grandson; and her brother L. D. Lenon of Monitor.
