Word has been received here of the recent sudden death of Mrs. Rose Caplan, 53, a resident of Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar Caplan of Hempstead, N.Y., four sons, Arnold Caplan, member of the Metropolitan Opera Co., New York, Dr. Mischa Caplan, Ft. Sam Houston (San Antonio), Texas, Milton Caplan and Julian Caplan, both of Hempstead, N.Y.; one brother, Harry Dow, Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Louis Caplan, Houston and Mrs. Morris L. Jacobs, Beaumont; and two children (sic).

A former longtime resident of Houston, Mrs. Caplan was an active worker in all civic and communal affairs. While living in Houston, she served in various capacities with the Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah, B'nai B'rith Women, the League of Women Voters and the Women's Club. During the early days of the Houston Symphony Orchestra, she was one of the most ardent workers and served as captain of the membership drive.

She was a pacifist, and received international recognition for her inauguration of a program designed to encourage mothers to "give a child an educational toy instead of a gun." She was active in the World Peace Movement preceding World War II, and designed a poster showing the flags of all nations with a globe in the center having the words "One World" running thru it.

In New York she was active in war relief work, the Foster Parents Organization and the movement in behalf of better relationship among all races.

Funeral services were held in Hempstead, with burial in Montefiore Cemetery, Spring, Long Island, N.Y.
