Sherman was the son of Peter McAninch and his first wife, Eliza McAninch.

Sherman R. McAninch, 86, a resident here for nearly 70 years, died at his home last Thursday.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Saturday at the Methodist church, Rev. S.A. Kruschwitz officiating. Mrs. D. Lewis was the soloist with Mrs. P.W. Peters at the organ. Burial was at Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral home.

Mr. McAninch was born in Jackson county, Iowa, on January 2, 1870, the son of Peter and Rosa McAninch. At the age of 17 he and his parents moved to a farm east of Hawarden.
On September 23, 1896, he married Maude Fowler. They lived on a farm for some years before moving to Hawarden. Two children were born to this union.
Mr. McAninch was a member of the Methodist church for many years.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Eva Lillie of Des Moines; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Younie of Hawarden; five grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, a daughter, two brothers, Harve and Henry, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Abbey, all of Hawarden.
