Native of PA; after residing in Mercer and Fayette county in that state, and also at or near Wheeling Virginia (now West Virginia) he moved to his last residence about 18 years ago. His wife and five children, all married survive.
To give readers a little more information, DNA testing has confirmed Samuel came from the Shepler family which largely lived in or near Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County, PA.
This family, which had come from the area between between what is Alsace-Lorraine in France and Heidelberg in Germany, first settled in the Shenandoah Valley region of Northern Virginia in the 1740s and purchased farm land there as early as 1749 from a British Nobleman, Lord Fairfax, that had been surveyed in 1748 by a 16 year old George Washington! Most of the family moved to Western PA at the end of the Revolutionary War.
