McCommas
Mrs. Margaret McCommas, passed away at 8:20 last evening at the home of her son, Mr. T.J. McCommas, 1925 Herschler street. Margaret Pryor was born in Virginia, December 27, 1821. She came with her parents to Henry county, Iowa, in her girlhood and grew to womanhood in the vicinity of New London. In 1846, she was united in marriage with Mr. Elisha McCommas, who also was from Virginia, and with him made her home on the farm near New London until the spring of 1883, when they came to make their home in Burlington. The continued their life together until the death of Mr. McCommas seven years ago next August.
Mrs. McCommas has been practically an invalid for the last eighteen years, but most of the time has been able to be about the house exercising motherly care over children and grandchildren and showing a loving interest in relatives and friends. There were born to her and her husband five sons and one daughter. Of these there are yet living, Mr. Geo. W. McCommas, of Pocahontas, Ark.; Mr. Elisha McCommas and Mr. T.J. McCommas, both of Burlington. There are also nineteen grandchildren, all of whom will hold her in loving remembrance.
Mrs. McCommas became a Christian in her young girlhood and her lifelong devotion to the cause of Christ was pronounced and earnest. She loved all Christians and desired earnestly. She had been failing in strength during the last year, but had been kept in bed about a week. The end came peacefully, with ease and quietness, like the close of a summer day.
"Let me die the death of the righteous, let my last end like hers."
Funeral announced later.
