Salvatore DiMase Dies, Orchestra Leader in 30's Salvatore DiMase, a musician who headed his own orchestra under the name "Sal Deems" during the 1930s, died at St. Joseph's Hospital yesterday after a short illness. Mr. Dimase group, the Midshipman Band and Orchestra was popular in Yonkers during the 1930s and early 1940s. The band was dissolved when World War ll demands sapped it's members. Mr. DiMase, a banjo player and violinist, never reorganized the band, instead performed for various city orchestras and private groups. He was a steamfitter by trade and worked on jobs throughout the country. However, he often returned to Yonkers where he had lived since he was a small boy.
Mr. DiMase was a member of the Steamfitters Union Local 343. the Musicians Union Local 402 and the Yonkers Republican Organization.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Kokinchak DiMase of 29
Vineyard Ave.; four daughters Mrs. Angela Catullo; Mrs. Frank (Christine) Racioppi, Mrs. John Frances Colacurcio, all of Yonkers, and Mrs. Jerry (Lucille) Reed of Tucson, Ariz.; three sons Anthony and Nicholas of Yonkers and Salvatore Jr. of Arrowsmith, Ill: 16 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

In yesterday's obituary of Salvatore DiMase, his brother Leonard A. Dimase was omitted in the list of survivors.
