Débora Arango
Birth: Nov. 11, 1907
Death: Dec. 4, 2005

Artist. She was born in Medellín (Colombia) and died in Envigado (Antioquía, Colombia). She was the disciple of painters Eladio Vélez and Pedro Nel Gómez. In 1939, she shocked the hypocrite moral of colombian society of her time, with her nude painting "Cantarina de Rosa." She was hardly criticized and almost excommunicated by the catholic church. In 1955, she exposed her works during a day in Madrid, because Franco's dictatorship censored the exhibition. Also, she was a critic of the politic society of her time, painting allegorically to the politicians as animal figures. She was included in expresionism movement. Among her most known paintings "El Almuerzo de los Pobres," "Huída del Convento," "Los Matarifes," "Clavel Rojo" and "Las Monjas y el Cardenal." She was cremated.  (bio by: José L Bernabé Tronchoni)
