EUNICE HILL WABER, 88, passed away Monday morning, March 10, 2014, at her home at the Sarah Moore Suites in Delaware. She had lived in Delaware County for 50 years.
Eunice was born on June 4, 1925, in Lincoln County, West Virginia, to Benjamin Franklin Hill and Audrey Watts Hill. On July 5, 1951, she married the love of her life, William Frederick Waber, Ph.D., who preceded her in death on January 28, 2013.
Eunice received her B.A. degree from Ashland College in 1947 and began a 44-year teaching career. A devoted teacher, she taught high school English and Latin in Maryland, New York, and Ohio. She was chair of the English department of Elgin High School in Marion County for 19 years, where she developed an Advanced Placement English program and coached the mock trial teams. She developed a mock trial course for the summer OWjL Camp at Ohio Wesleyan University, and taught the course there for many years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the international society for key women educators, and was a past president of the Ohio chapter. She was a published author having written two books about teaching Advanced Placement English. She loved to read, garden, sew, cook, and spend time with her children and grandchildren, and she was a member of the Radnor United Church of Christ.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Loyann (Jon) Brush of Delaware, Elise (Scott) Waber-Hays of Winthrop, Maine, and Renee Caserta of Nevada, Ohio. She had eight grandchildren: Andrew, Emily, and Sarah Brush; Alexander, Amanda, and William Hays; and Rebecca and Joseph Caserta. She is also survived by five siblings, John Hill of Marion; Paul Hill of Omaha, Nebraska; Rosemary Britenbucher of Ashland; Boyd Hill of Ashland; and Carolyn Abels of Columbus.
Eunice was preceded in death by her sister, Emily Hill Kerr.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 17th, from 3:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 West William Street at Valleyside Drive, Delaware. Funeral services will be held at Snyder Rodman Funeral Center on Tuesday, March 18th, at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Morgan Phillips officiating. The family will then host a reception following the funeral in the Snyder Rodman Community Room. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Loudonville Cemetery, in Loudonville, Ohio.
