Mr. Berndt built and operated a local motel. During World War II he was a civilian guard at the Stockton Army Depot. He worked for several years at a local auto supply and he also worked as a distiller at a local winery before retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lola M. Berndt of Lodi; a son; brother, Clarence; sisters, Iris Fitch and Alice Veryani and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
