REXBURG - Merle Archibald Luke, 89, of Rexburg, Idaho, died June 12, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Rexburg.
She was born February 24, 1912, in Rexburg, to Thomas Watson Archibald and Ellen Ricks Archibald. She attended schools in Rexburg and graduated with the first graduating class of Madison High School in 1930. She then graduated from Ricks College.
On May 20, 1935, she married Lowell Melvin Luke in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They lived in Rigby and Midway. They then purchased a farm in Salem, where they lived until the Teton Dam Flood. After the flood they lived in Rexburg. She was employed by the Rexburg Livestock Auction yards doing books and then worked at the Ricks College Cafeteria.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many positions. She and her husband served a mission in Arkansas from 1978 to 1980, and they were temple officiators for 15 years. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was a volunteer Pink Lady at the hospital for 10 years.
Survivors include her children, Robert (DeVona) Luke of Boise, Donna Jean (Brent) Kinghorn of Sugar City, Tom (Reta) Luke of Teton, Linda (Garth) Flamm of Rexburg, and Maryann (Mark) Irvine of Cove, Utah; a sister, Lola (Verl) Bodily of Iona; 35 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rexburg LDS North Stake Center, 315 E. Second North. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Sugar City Cemetery under the direction of Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg.
