| Birth: | Sep. 18, 1840 Lyons Ionia County Michigan, USA | | Death: | Jul. 5, 1890 Council Bluffs Pottawattamie County Iowa, USA |  US Congressman. At the start of the Civil War he enlisted in the Union Army with the 4th Iowa Cavalry, and later served as a Major in the 29th Regiment, Iowa Infantry. He concluded his service as acting adjutant general on the staff of Major General Frederick Steele. After the war, he was admitted to the bar in 1866 and commenced law practice in Council Bluffs, Iowa. From 1867 to 1870 he was deputy collector of internal revenue of the fifth district of Iowa, and judge of the circuit court in 1884. In 1885, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-ninth and Fiftieth Congresses, serving until 1889. He declined to be a candidate for re-nomination and resumed practicing law in Council Bluffs until his death.
