DAVENPORT - Services for George E. Day Jr., of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. today at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Mr. Day died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, unexpectedly while on a hunting trip with friends. He retired in 1991, ending his 44-year career as a supervisor with the former Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co., Davenport.
He was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Davenport, to George E. Sr. and Elsie L. (Merten) Day. He married Martha E. Border on Nov. 5, 1949, in Davenport. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Quad-City Times Plus 60 Club, Mended Hearts and Moose Lodge 28, Davenport. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Davenport, or Mended Hearts. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Brachtel, Solon, Iowa; a daughter, Vicki Gamble, Davenport; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Harry Whipple, Milan, Ill.; a son, Michael Day, Davenport; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Paula Day, Solon; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Specht, Bettendorf; and a brother, Gerald Day, of Guam. He was preceded in death by a sister, Deanna Rindler.
