Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2014 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Norwood "Pop" Roger, age 67, who passed away Monday, February 24, 2014 at his residence in Church Point.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of St. John Berchman Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.
Mr. Roger was a native and lifelong resident of Cankton. He was employed with Landcoast for sixteen years as a long haul truck driver until purchasing his own rig and continued driving for another eight years. He was a parishioner of St. John Berchman Catholic Church. Mr. Roger loved to smoke cigarettes, drink coffee, manage his horses and loved to visit the casino. He especially enjoyed entertaining and teaching his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of forty seven years, Betty Bearb Roger of Church Point; two daughters, Melissa Roger and her fiancé', Jason Arceneaux, of Cankton and Miranda Hebert and her husband, Michael Hebert, of Cankton; two sisters, Shirleen Roger Savoy and her husband, Hilton, and Judy Leger and her husband, Emery, all of Church Point; one brother-in-law, Rodney Bearb, of Carencro; one sister-in-law, Betty H. Roger of Church Point; three grandchildren, Noah Roger, Jake Guillot and Michael "Mikie" Hebert, Jr.; his lifelong friends, Roy Martinez and Richard Grossie; and a ton of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tackler Roger and the former Andrea Dugas; one brother, Aaron Roger, one sister, Peggy Bearb; and his godchild, Emery Bearb, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hebert, Jason Arceneaux, Chad Roger, Kevin savoy, Jeremy Bougerois, Nathan Fruge, Noah Roger, Jake Guillot, and Mikie Hebert. Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Wayne, Jr., Dwayne Savoy, Brian Domingue, Spencer Leger, Charles Fruge and Patrick Domingue, Sr.
Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue, Louisiana was in charge of arrangements.
