Born Kirby Grant Hoon, Jr. in Butte, Montana, he was best known for the role of pilot Sky King Mason on the popular 1950s, television series "Sky King". Prior to being cast of the "Sky King" TV series, he was a leading man in a good number of western B-movies. His credits include "Red River Range" (1938), "Bullet Code" (1940), "Chip Off the Old Block" (1944), "Song of Idaho" (1948) and "Yukon Vengeance" (1954). After the "Sky King" show ended in 1959, Kirby traveled with the Carson and Barnes Circus until he retired in 1970. He died at age 73 in Titusville, Florida.
