I can't read anything from the photo I have taken. I will have to go back and redo this one. I think it says Mary? Can anyone read the dates?
The 1870 Scotland County, Missouri census says her name is May, and that she was born about 1823. The census might say May, but the stone clearly shows Mary. The death year appears to be somewhere in the 1870's, but I can't discern which year.

Note: Per family trees on Ancestry, John and his wife died on the same day. Is this correct? What happened on 17 Apr 1878 that both died at the same time? This would be an interesting story to hear--if anyone knows it?
